Avital Volcanic Park is a tourist site located in an abandoned scoria (“lava rock”) quarry on the slopes of Mt. Avital, near Kibbutz Ein Zivan. Part of a national project by the Quarry Rehabilitation fund to transform old quarries into public parks, Avital Volcanic Park features unusual displays such as lava spewing from a simulated volcanic eruption and rock layers formed by past volcanic activity. A huge model shows Mt. Bental and Mt. Avital as they are today and as they appeared hundreds of thousands of years ago when they were active volcanoes. There is also a model of a volcanic eruption, with explanatory signs. The park is composed of hills built to resemble Golan Heights volcanoes. With the exception of the model, children are welcome to climb on the park’s hills.
